WWE Hall of Famer and pro wrestling legend Rey Mysterio first stepped inside the ring in April 1989 when he was only 14 years old. Since then, he has amazed millions with his exhilarating performance for almost 35 years and became an inspiration to many wrestlers and fans who looked up to him.

He’s been an active competitor for over three decades, and his son Dominik Mysterio followed in his footsteps and has become a successful member of the WWE locker room. Rey and Dominik Mysterio became the first father-son duo to become tag team champions in WWE, and following the latter’s heel turn and alliance with The Judgment Day, they had a great match at WrestleMania 39, in which Rey Mysterio emerged victorious.

However, it appears Dominik Mysterio is not finished with poking his nose in his father’s business, as he cost Rey Mysterio his match against Santos Escobar on the March 22, 2024, episode of SmackDown.

It has led to rumors of WWE planning another match between the father-son duo at WrestleMania 40, with many claiming it might be a Career Vs. Hair-match. If that’s the direction WWE is looking to take the Mysterios into WrestleMania, it makes one wonder if it will be Rey Mysterio’s retirement match.

If that’s the case, Rey Mysterio will look to put his son over at WrestleMania in a passing of the torch moment. Dominik Mysterio has impressed a lot of backstage executives with his ability to draw nuclear heat from the crowd, and retiring his father could be the best way to elevate him into an even more despicable heel in WWE.

Speculations of Mysterio’s retirement began when WWE inducted him into the Hall of Fame in 2023. But the masked superstar went on for another year and even held the United States Championship. He can put his son over at WrestleMania 40 and hang up his boots after a legendary career while Dominik continues the Mysterio legacy in WWE.
