People aspire to be many things in their lives, and for pro wrestlers, their primary aspiration would be to win as many championships as possible throughout their in-ring career.
Not every wrestler in the industry can claim to have done it all in the business, as the industry keeps evolving and raising the standards every day. However, few unique names have come close to achieving that feat with their many accolades, and Grand Slam Champions are one of them.
WWE has 17 male and 6 female Grand Slam Champions under the current format, and these are the requirements the superstars have to fulfill.
Men’s Division:
- The WWE or World Heavyweight Championship
- Either one of the Tag Team Championships, and
- Both the Intercontinental & United States Championships
Women’s Division:
- WWE Women’s Championship
- Women’s World Championship
- WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, and
- NXT Women’s Championship
Every once in a while, a superstar fulfills the requirements to add their name to this unique list, and Finn Balor is the latest entrant after he captured the Undisputed Tag Team Championship in September 2023. With that said, let’s look at ten other superstars who are just one title win away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion in WWE.
#10 Damian Priest
Needs To Win The Intercontinental Championship
Damian Priest won his first major singles championship on the main roster when he defeated Sheamus at SummerSlam 2021 to win the United States Championship.
He then had two reigns with the Undisputed Tag Team Championships with his Judgment Day partner Finn Balor. He won the 2023 men’s MITB Ladder Match and cashed in the contract on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40 to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
While everyone thought he would be a transitional champion, he’s still going strong by holding the title for over 110 days. He only needs to add the Intercontinental Championship to his collection to solidify his name in history as the next Grand Slam Champion in WWE.
Since the US title is not in the criteria to become a Triple Crown Champion, winning the Intercontinental Championship would add Damian Priest’s name to the Triple Crown list.
#9 Iyo Sky
Needs To Win The Women’s World Championship
Following a dominant run in NXT, where she held the NXT Women’s and Women’s Tag Team Championships, Iyo Sky made her WWE main roster debut at SummerSlam 2022. She aligned herself with Bayley and Dakota Kai to form the Damage CTRL faction and captured the Women’s Tag Team Championship to start her gold collection on the main roster.
She had two runs with the Women’s Tag Team titles before winning the 2023 women’s MITB ladder match. She cashed in the contract on Bianca Belair at SummerSlam 2023 to win the WWE Women’s Championship.
She held the title for an impressive 246 days before dropping it to Bayley at WrestleMania 40. With her accolades, she’s now just one step away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion in WWE. All she needs to do is capture the Women’s World Championship somewhere down the line to cement her legacy as one of the greatest female superstars in WWE history.
#8 Bianca Belair
Needs To Win The NXT Women’s Championship
Bianca Belair has lived up to her moniker as the EST of WWE throughout her career on the company’s main roster. She’s a 3-time Women’s Champion and a Royal Rumble winner, and with her recent run with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Jade Cargill, Belair is one step away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion.
She spent three years on NXT during her early years in WWE but failed to capture the NXT Women’s Championship. If she had captured the gold in the developmental brand, she would’ve already been a Grand Slam Champion.
However, if WWE decides to replicate what they did with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch with Bianca Belair down the road, The EST of WWE could complete her gold collection and add her name to the legendary Grand Slam Champions list.
#7 Shinsuke Nakamura
Needs To Win Either The WWE or World Heavyweight Championship
It’s heartbreaking to see a superstar of Shinsuke Nakamura’s talent relegated to an enhancement talent status in WWE. He was at the top of his game when he started in NXT in 2016 and had all it takes to become a multiple-time world champion on the main roster.
However, the main roster creative team under Vince McMahon dropped the ball with The King of Strong Style after his 2018 men’s Royal Rumble victory. Nakamura’s downfall began when he lost his WWE title match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 34, and no amount of secondary titles or King of the Ring victories couldn’t help him regain that main event aura.
Nakamura has two reigns each with the Intercontinental and United States titles and has one tag team title run with Cesaro. He needs to capture one of the two world titles to become a Grand Slam Champion, but the chances of that happening are slim to none. But wrestling fans are still clinging to the saying “Never Say Never” and are hoping for the best.
#6 Carlito
Needs To Win Either The WWE or World Heavyweight Championship
Carlito had one of the most impactful debuts in WWE history as he defeated John Cena to win the United States Championship on his first televised appearance on the October 7, 2004, episode of SmackDown.
He established himself as one of the best heels on the WWE roster during his first run, which earned him one more title run with the Intercontinental Championship. He then turned face and teamed up with his brother Primo to capture the Unified Tag Team Championships.
Carlito spent an extended time away from WWE following his exit from the company in 2010. He made a few sporadic appearances before returning full-time in late 2023. He’s now part of the Judgment Day faction with Damian Priest, Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, Dominik Mysterio, and Rhea Ripley.
He needs to capture a world championship to become a Grand Slam Champion, but looking at the direction the company is going right now, it’s doubtful that he will get it done. But once again, never say never.
#5 Big E
Needs To Win The United States Championship
There is a reason behind every wrestling promotion asking the fans not to try and replicate the in-ring action, as even the best wrestlers in the industry have sustained gruesome injuries that took years off their careers and their lives.
Former WWE Champion Big E sustained such an injury back in March 2022 when he suffered a broken neck with fractures to his C1 and C6 vertebrae. He’s been out of action ever since, and according to several reports, it’s doubtful that he makes a return to in-ring competition.
However, he gave a recent update on his condition while talking to Chris Vannini on the Getting Over podcast,
“Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone.
Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.”
If his body heals as expected and he makes a return somewhere down the line, he could restart his career and add more accolades to his collection by winning the United States title, which would make him a Grand Slam Champion.
#4 The Rock
Needs To Win The United States Championship
The odds of this happening might look slim to none, but looking at how The Rock presented himself throughout his recent WWE run on the road to WrestleMania 40 and how he competed in the high-profile tag team match, there might be a tiny fraction of a chance. Either way, it’s not a sin for the fans to speculate.
By the time WWE reintroduced the United States Championship in 2003, The Rock had one foot out the door and didn’t get a chance to capture the prestigious title.
However, his current larger-than-life character is well above the levels of a mid-card championship. But by some miracle, if WWE gets the idea for The Rock to capture the US title, The People’s Champion will finally become a Grand Slam Champion.
#3 Cody Rhodes
Needs To Win The United States Championship
Cody Rhodes overcame Roman Reigns and The Bloodline at WrestleMania 40 to finish his story and capture the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He has established himself as a workhorse champion and has taken his rightful place as the face of the company.
His journey to this crowning moment has seen many ups and downs, including a run with the humiliating Stardust character. However, he added several championships to his collection throughout his first WWE run.
He’s held multiple tag team championships over the years with different partners and is a 2-time Intercontinental Champion. All he needs is a run with the United States Championship to add his name to the list of WWE Grand Slam Champions.
#2 Drew McIntyre
Needs To Win The United States Championship
Drew McIntyre might be finding it hard to get his hands on a championship at present, with CM Punk making it his mission to screw over The Scottish Warrior at any cost. However, McIntyre has already developed quite the resume with 7 title reigns to his collection.
He’s a 3-time world champion, 2-time Tag Team champion, 1-time NXT champion, and 1-time Intercontinental champion. He’s already earned the Triple Crown accolade and needs the United States Championship to add his name to the Grand Slam Champions list.
Before that happens, he needs to take care of his business with CM Punk, and he will get that chance at SummerSlam 2024. He will face Punk in a one-on-one match with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee. Judging by how things are going, this storyline might go on for a while, but once everything is said and done, McIntyre should complete his collection and win the US title in the future.
#1 CM Punk
Needs To Win The United States Championship
After CM Punk’s bitter exit from WWE in 2014, wrestling fans thought they would never see The Straight Edge Superstar return to the company. However, he made his return to wrestling through All Elite Wrestling in 2021, but that turned out to be a more bitter experience for Punk than his past issues with WWE, which led him to sort things out with his former employer and make his return at the 2023 Survivor Series PLE.
His list of accolades with WWE includes five world title reigns and 1 reign each with the ECW, Tag Team, and Intercontinental Championships, and he’s also a 2-time MITB winner.
Like his SummerSlam opponent Drew McIntyre, CM Punk needs to capture the United States Championship to add the Grand Slam accolade to his resume. Punk holding the title could also give a much-needed boost to the mid-card title picture.
