With Roman Reigns having a death grip on the WWE and Universal Championships, WWE chose to bring in a second world title by introducing the new version of the World Heavyweight Championship.

Seth Rollins became the inaugural champion, established the new title as the workhorse championship, and defended it against all comers. He lost the title to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40, but the latter only had mere minutes to enjoy his reign as he dropped it to Damian Priest, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.

Drew McIntyre will challenge Priest for the title at Clash at the Castle and is the favorite to walk out as the new champion. If that happens, McIntyre has King of the Ring winner Gunther waiting for him at SummerSlam, and with a CM Punk return just around the corner, the title picture might revolve around these three superstars.

However, other talented performers are waiting for their time to shine, and with that said, let’s take a look at five superstars who should hold the World Heavyweight Championship within the next three years.

#5 Finn Balor

In a perfect world, Finn Balor would’ve been a multiple-time world champion in WWE if he didn’t get injured at SummerSlam 2016.

Balor started his WWE main roster career with a bang and became the inaugural Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016. However, the reign only lasted for a day as the shoulder injury he sustained during the match forced him to relinquish the title the next night on Raw.

Eight years have passed, and Balor hasn’t recovered from that incident. He worked in the mid-card and returned to NXT for some time before finding the limelight again with the Judgment Day faction.

With Damian Priest set to drop the title to McIntyre at Clash at the Castle, WWE fans are rooting for Balor to win this year’s men’s MITB ladder match. The win could propel Balor back into the main event picture, and he could win the World Heavyweight Championship at some point within the 2025 MITB event.

#4 Jey Uso

The Bloodline story continues to be one of the most entertaining aspects of WWE television for the past four years, and apart from Roman Reigns, Jey Uso emerged as a prominent singles performer.

He has the entire WWE Universe at the palm of his hands, as his newfound popularity has all it takes to get him to a world championship run down the road.

He already had multiple shots at the World Heavyweight Championship but fell short in each instance. It’s clear that Jey Uso will have a prominent role in the Bloodline storyline following Roman Reigns’ return, and once WWE wraps up the rumored Bloodline Civil War storyline, Jey Uso should be the first in line to get his hands on the world title.

#3 Sami Zayn

Other than Rey Mysterio, Sami Zayn is the perfect superstar to take the Ultimate Underdog monicker as the reigning Intercontinental Champion overcame insurmountable odds throughout his WWE career to reach the position he’s in today.

He pulled off what many considered an impossible task by ending Gunther’s 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign at WrestleMania 40. He’s likely to drop the title to Chad Gable at Clash at the Castle, following which, WWE should continue to feature Zayn in prominent feuds after the title change and take their time to build up an engaging storyline that will end with him winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

#2 Kevin Owens

Throughout pro wrestling history, fans have witnessed many world title reigns suffer a rather unfair end. Kevin Owens added his name to that list when he lost his Universal Championship to a part-timer Goldberg at Fastlane 2017.

In a perfect world, WWE would’ve followed it up with at least two more title runs for Owens, but The Prizefighter ended up only fighting for the big prize with no positive result for the next seven years.

As Kevin Owens continues his lengthy battle with The Bloodline, WWE should look for opportunities to elevate him to the world title picture once everything is said and done. Kevin Owens deserves another spot in the limelight and should get his hands on the world title in the future.

#1 Bron Breakker

It’s not every day that wrestling fans get to witness the emergence of superstars like Bron Breakker. The third-generation superstar embodies the aura of a perfect powerhouse wrestler with an equal amount of talent in all aspects of in-ring competition.

He’s built like a tank yet moves like someone half his size and has an intimidating look that makes him a perfect candidate to take the mantle of world champion in the future.

With the recent reports of WWE management being very happy with Breakker’s progress on the main roster, it’s only a matter of time before he breaks into the main event picture. However, WWE should take their time to build him up with a suitable character before elevating him to the next level. Once that’s accomplished, nothing will stand in Bron Breakker’s way of becoming the World Heavyweight Champion.
