Following the highly successful Bash in Berlin event, the next significant premium live event is WWE Bad Blood. The show will emanate live from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 5, 2024, featuring matches from the Raw and SmackDown brands.
While Bron Breakker will defend the Intercontinental Championship against the winner of the ongoing tournament, the fans are waiting for the company to reveal the official match card in the following weeks.
After observing the recent developments and rumors, the following matches could be a part of the official lineup for WWE Bad Blood 2024:
- Bron Breakker vs. TBD (Rumored to be Jey Uso) – Intercontinental Championship
- Gunther vs. Sami Zayn – World Heavyweight Championship
- CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre – Hell in a Cell Match
- Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan – Women’s World Championship
If Triple H doesn’t stick to his recent 5-match strategy for PLEs, the Bad Blood 2024 lineup could have two more matches.
WWE has a month to prepare for the event, and before that, let’s dig deeper into the PLE’s history and look at five fascinating facts about WWE Bad Blood.
#5 The PLE Returns After 20 Years
The last time WWE Bad Blood took place was in June 2004 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. After the debut installment in 1997, WWE brought back the Bad Blood PLE in 2003 to replace the annual King of the Ring event.
However, after 2004, WWE discontinued the Bad Blood PLE and replaced it with the ECW One Night Stand event. While WWE planned to reintroduce the event in 2017, the company scrapped the plans to host Great Balls of Fire.
WWE announced the PLE would return on October 5, 2024, which would mark the 27th anniversary of the first event.
#4 The First WWE Bad Blood Event Also Featured An Intercontinental Championship Tournament
WWE Bad Blood 2024 will feature the Intercontinental Championship tournament winner challenging Bron Breakker for the title. Recent developments and rumors suggest Jey Uso would win the tournament and face Bron Breakker at Bad Blood.
Looking back at the first Bad Blood event in 1997, it also featured an Intercontinental Championship tournament.
Owen Hart and Farooq were the finalists competing for the vacant title at the event, and Hart emerged victorious in the match to walk out as the new Intercontinental Champion.
The finals of the current tournament will take place on Raw next week, and fans can expect Jey Uso to defeat Bron Strowman, Pete Dunne, and Ilja Dragunov in the fatal 4-way match.
#3 Randy Orton Is The Only Remaining Full Time Superstar Who Competed In The Previous WWE Bad Blood Events
Many superstars have stepped in the ring to compete at the three previous WWE Bad Blood events, but only one remains an active wrestler still employed with WWE.
Randy Orton competed in Bad Blood 2004 and retained the Intercontinental Championship against Rob Van Dam in a singles match.
Edge, Chris Jericho, and Christian are the other active wrestlers who competed in the previous Bad Blood events. But since they are a part of the AEW roster, it makes Randy Orton the only active WWE superstar to have competed in the previous events.
While The Rock competed in the 1997 event, his status as a part time wrestler acts in Randy Orton’s favor.
Randy Orton failed in his attempt to win the World Heavyweight Championship at Bash in Berlin and might not be a part of the Bad Blood match card.
#2 Featured The First Ever Hell In A Cell Match
The 1997 “Badd Blood: In Your House” event witnessed the first-ever Hell in a Cell match in WWE.
The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels were the first superstars to enter the Devil’s Playground, and the match also showcased Kane’s WWE debut.
Apart from that, two other Hell in a Cell matches have occurred in the WWE Bad Blood events. Triple H competed in both matches and defeated Kevin Nash in 2003 and Shawn Michaels in 2004.
Rumors and recent developments indicate the fans could witness a Hell in a Cell match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre at the 2024 edition.
#1 Male Singles Champions Never Lost Their Titles In The Event
Another interesting fact about the WWE Bad Blood event is that the male singles champions have never lost their titles in the event.
The Intercontinental Championship was vacant at the 1997 event, so that doesn’t count. Christian retained the title against Booker T in 2003 when he lost the match via disqualification. Randy Orton retained the title against Shelton Benjamin in 2004.
Triple H retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Kevin Nash in 2003, and Kane couldn’t win the title from the champion in 2004.
Going by that logic, Gunther and Bron Breakker have the advantage in WWE Bad Blood 2024.
