During tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Michael Cole explained on commentary that both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships will be on the line at Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. He stated that the match would continue until the contenders retrieved both titles.
The announcement might hint towards WWE finally splitting up the tag team championships at WrestleMania 40.
Current champions Finn Balor and Damian Priest of The Judgment Day will defend their titles in a six-pack ladder match against DIY, The New Day, Awesome Truth, A-Town Down Under, and New Catch Republic at WrestleMania.
However, rumors also suggest that Austin Theory and Grayson Waller’s spots are unconfirmed despite the two qualifying for the match, which has increased the speculations that WWE might have some surprises in store.
The tag team division has been in shambles for too long with the titles unified, and splitting them up would give young teams like The Creed Brothers rise to the occasion.
It will be interesting to see how WWE is going to do it, but it’s almost a guarantee that two teams will walk out of WrestleMania 40 as Tag Team Champions.
